Is BF2142 The Next EverCrack?
Gamespot has a hands on review of the new BF2142. Its a short read, but it does have a few very interesting tidbits.
“All 40 of the game’s unlocks were made available for us…”
You read that correctly. BF2142 is going to have 40 unlocks. Personally, I think this idea is terrible. It really reminds me of the console mentality that requires you to play through certain aspects of the single player game before you can get to the “really good stuff”.
I assure you, I am not some ass that will be lead around by a carrot on a stick. I do not play FPSs to get “Ph4t l3w7”. I play FPSs so I can jump online an hour at a time and get my frag on.
Oh, but wait. It gets better. Check out this part.
“Take, for instance, medics. There is no dedicated medic class in Battlefield 2142. Instead, the standard assault class can unlock a medic kit, which can be used to heal you and friendly units.”
You read that correctly. In order to be a medic, you have to unlock the medic kit. This would be at the expense of a better weapon I am sure. But it gets better.
“Meanwhile, defibrillators to revive fallen teammates are another unlock.”
FTW!?!?! So now I have to put in hours of time just to unlock basic necessities of the game? Who the hell makes this stuff up and what are they smoking? Is it their goal to make sure games stop being fun and start to feel more like work? I got that evil Monkey called MMORPG Addiction off my back. I play FPSs to fill my gaming needs without feeling like it is work.
The gang in the |GRB| use to joke about Battlefield 42,000 BC. “I know not with what weapons WW3 will be fought, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones…” It looks to me like EA just made it a reality. With 40 unlocks, I cant image you will start with anything more sophisticated than a Rock Axe and a Rock Sling.
I dont like being pissed off at EA all the time, but they really dont get this gamer. Maybe Im getting too old for this stuff. At least I hear good things about Unreal Tournament 2007 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
